The application process
In order to stay at Mayu, you will need to be selected after completing an application. The process and rough timeline is explained below.
Step One
Prepare your application
Choose your residency program (Artist Funded or Scholarship) and season (Spring, Summer, Autumn or Winter).
Prepare your application package as a single document (.pdf, .doc or .docx) under 10MB in size with the following sections:
Artist Introduction (Max 500 words)
Artwork Samples (5 to 10 existing samples of work)
Project Proposal, including how you plan to make use of the local environment or community (Max 500 words)
Submit your application here before the deadline.
Step Two
Application review and interview
All applications are carefully considered, then shortlisted candidates will be notified within approximately one week of the deadline. Unsuccessful applicants will also be notified.
The shortlisted candidates will be invited to a video call interview with Mayu’s hosts to discuss details about the applicant’s artistic plans. You must be able to speak either English or Japanese to take this interview.
Step Three
Selection and contract signing
One successful applicant will be chosen, notified and offered a residency placement.
Artist-funded residents will be asked to pay a deposit, and to sign a contract for their placement.
Once the deposit and contract are completed, the successful applicant can begin preparing for their stay at Mayu.
